In Class
Today in class we completed the following steps:
- In order to introduce our last novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time we started by discussing intelligence.
- What is it?
- How is it recognized?
- Where does it come from?
- Next, we watched and discussed the following video about autism
- Lastly, student worked individually to complete a webquest.

In Class
Today in class we completed the following tasks:
- We discussed pages 273 – 310
- We also discussed some of the major weaknesses in the last argumentative essay and how to fix those issues.
- Lastly, I changed the schedule so that students will have 13-Oct-2011 to work in class on their essays. As a result, we will finish talking about the novel on Tuesday 18-Oct-2011

Due to the fact that the many student had nothing to say or did not read the text, each student must complete the following writing assignments. Please bring a printed copy of your pages to class as we will be sharing them aloud.
- The courting rituals between men and women in Afghani culture.
- The power relationships. Who has the power? Why? How?
- Amir and Soraya seem incapable of having children
- What is interesting/unique about the General’s view of adoption? Is this view accepted by Amir and Soraya? Is it accepted for the same reasons?
- Amir believes that the reasons him and Soraya cannot conceive is a result of his past sins?
- Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Today in class, students completed the following tasks;
- Students formed 7 groups of 3 and 1 group of 4.
- In groups, students selected topics about Afghanistan and selected dates to present their information

Today in class, we completed the following tasks
- The class split into four groups – one for each of the major sections of the reading.
- Each group analyzed the reading for in order to answer and elaborate on four questions
- We then spent the block discussing the book with each group informally leading the discussion.

In class today we completed the following tasks:
- First, I walked students how to access Google Groups
- Next, students had time to write their 9-11 responses and respond to the writing of their classmates
- We discussed the first 51 pages of the novel touching on some of the following points:
- Oskar’s eccentricities
- Thomas, the character writing from 1963, who is losing the use of his words
- Oskar’s mom
- Oskar’s dad
- Oskar’s mission

Monday 29-Aug-2011 Modern Lit
In Class
Today in class we completed the following tasks:
- First we examined different images from 9-11.
- Next, students wrote freely about the following topics:
- What do you know about 9-11?
- What do you remember about 9-11?
- What did it mean to you?
- Next, due to the fact that the school’s wireless network is down, we watched a series of films as a class in order to gain perspective on what it was like to be in New York City during 9-11
- Students were instructed to take notes during the films in order to record new information they learned and what they found to be interesting or surprising.
- I ended class by reading the first seven pages of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close aloud to the class.

- Students spent the rest of the block brainstorming for their projects and completing their Innocence/Innocence Lost Project proposal.
